Successful Conclusion to Industrial Action

November 23rd, 2016

Members in Annuities, Reading have ended their Industrial Action against the proposal to move their work to Mumbai.

Back in May the Company proposed moving all the work done in Annuities Reading, 82 roles to Mumbai.  At the time Unite told the Company they could not accept the proposal.  It made no business sense and would have a detrimental impact on customer service.

Members voted in favour for Industrial Action and action started in August.

We are pleased to report that earlier this month the Company advised that they want to retain the skills and knowledge of the people in Reading and that they no longer want to move all the work to Mumbai.  Members were given a guarantee of no compulsory redundancies as the Company re-think their plans for the Annuity business.

Unite now have a voice on the working party looking at the future of the annuity servicing.

Our “Long Term Thinking for Jobs” campaign which opposes offshoring and outsourcing continues and highlights that Offshoring and Outsourcing is Bad for Jobs, Bad for the Customer and Bad for Prudential.

The outcome of the annuity result is great for our members and we are pleased Prudential eventually stopped and listened to our members concerns and now have committed to fully engage with Unite over their plans.
