2022/23 Pay Claim
We submitted our pay claim to the Company in November. We are some way into the negotiations and have been working hard to get the best outcome we can on your behalf. We are close to reaching a final proposal that we can put to the members, early in the new year.
2022 Highlights
- We have represented or helped in excess of 50 people this year both formally and informally.
- We have had a positive impact in a number of collective consultations.
- Negotiated an uplift in both the amount and salary threshold of the cost of living payment. In addition, we ensured this payment was not reduced for part time staff who received the full amount, where eligible.
- We played a key part in putting together a Menopause Policy, this included requesting funding for HRT or any menopause related medication which was agreed. This was in our pay claim last year and we are one of the first in the finance sector to do this.
As always, none of this is possible without the support and strength of the Unite members in M&G plc.
If you need to talk to us about anything then please contact Unite@prudential.co.uk
We hope you have a peaceful Christmas and enjoyable New Year.

Update on Offices
Following the update this week, it appears that the majority of staff are unlikely to return to office based work until next year at the earliest.
Unite again commends the cautious approach but has again raised concerns that working from home doesn’t suit everyone and there are many reasons for this. As such, it is essential that each individuals personal circumstances are taken into account and that any concerns raised are not only listened to, but are addressed and resolved satisfactorily. We are really pleased that some members have already been listened to and that they are now in a better work position.
We have also raised concerns that whilst the weather has been good over the last few months, individuals may struggle more as we move towards winter and being in the same space 24/7 so the Company does need to look at the support being given and respond accordingly to any concerns raised in the future.
If you are in the position where you are finding, or begin to find working at home difficult (for any reason), please contact us so that we can try to help:
Outsourcing
For those of you that watched John Foley’s video presentation and were concerned when he mentioned further outsourcing, we have raised our concerns and been assured that there are no plans approved for anything in the short term. As always we’ll keep an eye on any developments and communicate to members as and when we can.
Feel free to pass this on to your colleagues who may not be members.
More information on the benefits of being a Unite member can be found at www.unitetheunion.org.

Collective Recognition in Craigforth
Thursday, October 24th, 2019
Following consultation with the Company , we now have collective recognition for all Grade 1-3 employees in Craigforth (excluding those working in PFP or Intermediated Distribution).
We are pleased that this is a positive step from the Company towards ensuring all employees in grades 1-3 are represented by the collective recognition agreement irrespective of location. This shows a commitment from the Company to recognise the value and external perspective that only an independent union can bring to any consultation or negotiation.
As always, we are committed to getting the best outcome we can for all members and in all locations. For areas where we currently don’t have collective recognition such as PFP, Intermediaries, Edinburgh etc. you can still join Unite and you will be able to access all of the benefits that being a member brings.
Personally, I would like to thank two of the previous Senior Representatives, Steve O’Donnell and Chris Gray as without their hard work and persistence over the years this may not have been achieved.

We are still waiting for the IT system at Reading Buses to be implemented to enable Reading based staff to obtain discounts on travel. We will update you as soon as we know the date.
Consultations
So far this year, we have been involved with 6 collective consultations including TUPE, proposed redundancies, relocation and policy changes. We ensured that the current redundancy cap (uncapped for PGDS) will remain in place until 31 December 2022, no part time colleague was financially disadvantaged by the change to the Bank Holiday calculation, we requested that Partner’s Life Cover remain within Pru Select and finally, following feedback from Unite, the Company changed their default position on Company Sick Pay where an individual has a live Formal Warning.
Individuals
Since the beginning of 2019 we have helped in excess of 50 individuals of all grades and in all locations to get a fair outcome. These range from informal chats to more formal grievances, disciplinaries and capability meetings.
It is important to remember that with the new suite of policies there is a large degree of discretion but if you feel that you have not got a fair outcome then please get in touch:
