November 19th, 2015
Yesterday a handful of Prudential Section members were presented with certificates for gaining qualifications through Unite.
As part of Unite’s partnership with the Prison Officers Association (POA) we were able to offer a number of free distance learning courses which led to a Level 2 qualification.
A number of Prudential members successfully completed the courses in Customer Services, Team Leading, Health & Nutrition, Diabetes Awareness and Mental Health Awareness and yesterday ex Prudential Section rep and current Mayor of Reading came to 121 and presented Joy Wellstead, Kevin Gent, Nigel Halliday and Sharon Trussell their certificates.
The Mayor said “Learning is so important and it’s great that union are able to provide their members the opportunities to develop themselves. You are never to old to stop Learning” and went on to say that they she recently received a Level 2 qualification in Equality and Diversity via the union.
All present said that they found the courses very useful and rewarding and are able to put their new skills into regular use.
Senior Rep, Steve O’Donnell, was delighted so many members had taken advantage of the opportunities the partnership with the POA provided. “Unite the Union isn’t just there to represent members who face workplace issues we are also here to help support members develop and give them skills that are transportable both in and outside the workplace”.
