2011 Pay Claim
As regular readers are aware Unite have been in talks with UKIO in relation to issues relating to the salary review for the last few months. We are encouraged with the progress of these and following members meetings we will be submitting our 2011 pay claim on 12th November.
We will also be submitting the 2011 pay claims for PGDS and Corporate Property at the same time.
If you want to put forward any suggestions for the claim please email unite@prudential.co.uk before 10th November.
Pru Choice
Unite have welcomed the improvements to the flexible benefits scheme in UKIO, now named Pru Choice. Members will be aware that Unite raised in the 2010 pay claim that some of the benefits employees received had fallen behind the market, and that it was unfair to include the statutory minimum 20 days holiday as an additional benefit. We were pleased that HR listened to us and other focus groups who were saying the same and have improved their overall offering.
Unite asked PGDS to make similar changes for those employees who are eligible for Pru Choice. Unfortunately, PGDS rejected our request, although they have now extended access to the scheme to ex M&G and PruPim employees.
In rejecting our claim for the same improvements PGDS stated :-
“the key reason for this decision is that PGDS’ reward structures and needs are different from those of Prudential UK which leads us to believe it is not appropriate or necessary to increase the flex fund of PGDS employees.
For example, when comparing PGDS and Prudential UK, each has differing bonus schemes with different on-target bonus levels and has taken a different approach to salary review over recent years. From a reward perspective, there are other significant differences between PGDS and Prudential UK such as the different employee populations we employ and PGDS’ diverse set of legacy reward and benefit arrangements.
Given our different employee populations, labour markets and current reward structures we do not believe that there is a market or financial justification for increasing our benefits offering.”
