Successful Conclusion to Industrial Action

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2016

Members in Annuities, Reading have ended their Industrial Action against the proposal to move their work to Mumbai.

Back in May the Company proposed moving all the work done in Annuities Reading, 82 roles to Mumbai.  At the time Unite told the Company they could not accept the proposal.  It made no business sense and would have a detrimental impact on customer service.

Members voted in favour for Industrial Action and action started in August.

We are pleased to report that earlier this month the Company advised that they want to retain the skills and knowledge of the people in Reading and that they no longer want to move all the work to Mumbai.  Members were given a guarantee of no compulsory redundancies as the Company re-think their plans for the Annuity business.

Unite now have a voice on the working party looking at the future of the annuity servicing.

Our “Long Term Thinking for Jobs” campaign which opposes offshoring and outsourcing continues and highlights that Offshoring and Outsourcing is Bad for Jobs, Bad for the Customer and Bad for Prudential.

The outcome of the annuity result is great for our members and we are pleased Prudential eventually stopped and listened to our members concerns and now have committed to fully engage with Unite over their plans.

Members vote for Industrial Action

Thursday, August 18th, 2016

Members in Individual Annuities, Reading, have voted overwhelmingly for Industrial Action to protect their jobs being migrated to Mumbai.

With a 75% turnout 100% voted in favour of action short of a strike and 97.2% voted in favour of action including strike action.

The Company have been informed of the result and Unite asked for the project to be suspended to allow for further talks to take place.  Disappointingly the Company have refused to do this and said they will continue with the migration as planned.

Unite are consulting members on what form of action they will now be starting and when.
